Eczema is a persistent and uncomfortable condition, but instant relief doesn't always require an expensive prescription or an elaborate treatment plan. Many effective remedies lie within your reach, often at a fraction of the cost of steroid creams.

Let's explore five affordable natural eczema relief remedies, starting with the most affordable and moving through other inexpensive and effective solutions.

Please note that I'm only talking about immediate relief on this bog post. For long term eczema management, my compass always shows the Blueprint stack.

I use some of the below budget-friendly options to soothe my skin and create skin comfort on a daily basis. I use these externally by the way, there are other natural oils I take internally and you can read about those here.

1. Castor Oil

Castor oil is the most affordable and the best remedy that works for me (lucky me). It has long been celebrated for its skin benefits, particularly its ability to provide relief from eczema symptoms. Rich in ricinoleic acid, castor oil has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties that can soothe irritated skin.

Castor oil is very thick, so I simply apply three drops of castor oil directly to the affected areas. For best results, you can use it after a warm bath when your skin is still damp. This helps to lock in moisture and enhance the oil's effectiveness.

Castor oil is relatively inexpensive and available at most drugstores and online retailers. I buy mine in bulk. Just make sure it comes in a dark, glass bottle and not in plastic packaging. No need to say that I only buy organic, cold pressed oils and you should too. Remember? Love yourself like your life depends on it.

2. Shea Butter

Shea butter is my second go-to. In fact, I create mixtures with shea butter and drop other eczema relieving oils in it. Derived from the nuts of the African shea tree, this rich, creamy substance is packed with vitamins A, E, and F, which help to nourish and repair damaged skin.

Whether just shea or shea mixed with my other oils, I gently massage a generous amount of shea butter into my eczema affected area. Its emollient properties provide a protective barrier that locks in moisture and reduces itching and inflammation.

While slightly more expensive than castor oil, shea butter remains a cost-effective solution for eczema. A little goes a long way, making it a worthwhile investment for long-term skin health. Make sure you invest in organic shea butter.

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a versatile and budget-friendly remedy for eczema. Its high-fat content and lauric acid provide excellent moisturizing and antibacterial properties. This makes it ideal for calming inflamed skin and preventing infection.

Coconut oil does not work for my eczema but I do oil pulling with it. Maybe its the lauric acid that makes the itch and burn worst but I'm not entirely sure.

However, I personally know a considerable number of eczema sufferers who swear by topical coconut oil application. So do your patch test to chose what works for you. Eczema sufferers who love coconut oil apply coconut oil to the affected areas several times a day. It’s also beneficial to use it as a nightly treatment before bed to allow it to work its magic overnight.

It is widely available and inexpensive. You can buy in bulk but always pay attention to expiry dates. Opt for organic, unrefined coconut oil for the best results.

4. Oatmeal Baths

An oatmeal bath is a time-tested remedy for eczema that can bring soothing relief to itchy and irritated skin. Colloidal oatmeal, which is finely ground oatmeal, helps my skin to relieve itching and inflammation while moisturizing my skin.

For my oatmeal bath I add a cup of colloidal oatmeal to a warm bath and soak for 15-20 minutes at a minimum. You probably know by now that you should never be harsh on your skin with towels. Always gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel afterward.

Colloidal oatmeal is also reasonably priced. It’s an affordable option that provides significant relief for eczema prone and atopic skin.

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is another natural remedy known for its soothing and healing properties. The gel from this plant can help to calm inflammation and promote skin repair.

Assuming that every single household on Earth keeps an Aloe Vera jar in their fridge for burns and cuts like I do, I'm here to inform you that it's also great for eczema.

I usually apply the gel directly from the fridge to wherever I want. I realized though, if I reapply several times a day the layers start peeling off.

Aloe Vera gel can vary in price depending on purity and brand, but it is generally affordable and widely available in health food stores and even grocery stores. Always get the best quality product you can buy with your budget. Organic helps too.

It took me a while to realize that finding relief from eczema doesn’t have to break the bank. By using these affordable natural remedies in my skincare routine, I can soothe my skin and manage my eczema without suffering.

After having lived eczema free for about 8 years, a small patch came back and I remembered that eczema never really goes away and we have to learn to soothe ourselves rather than oppressing it with steroids.

From the deeply moisturizing castor oil to the healing power of aloe vera, each of these natural remedies offer their unique benefits and can be integrated into a your daily routine.

Again, my long term eczema management toolkit is the Blueprint stack.

May the nature's healing powers shine upon your eczema and gut health, friends!
