When it comes to managing my eczema, everything comes back to my gut health (well, yours does too).
I love reminding people about the importance of gut health, and encourage others to incorporate specific oils and nutrition elements into their diet, all of which I find in the Blueprint stack.
The oils I will mention offer dual advantages for me; they help relieve the symptoms of my eczema and support a balanced, healthy gut. You do you but whatever you do, find that drinking oil that helps.
In this post I want to share what I find very useful and healing for myself. On the table are five powerful oils that I personally take internally to enhance my overall well-being.
#1 High Polyphenol Cold-Pressed EVOO
Cold-pressed olive oil, when very high in polyphenols (220 and above is considered to have extra health benefits, my partner and I take 520 to 580 as healthy and completely medicine/drug free middle aged individuals), offers significant benefits for both skin health and gut function. Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants that help combat oxidative stress and inflammation, which are critical in managing eczema. Read more on polyphenols here.
I receive tens of emails from The Wellnessian community every day, asking where I buy my high polyphenol EVOO. Brian Johnson's Blueprint label is pretty much the only trusted, lab tested and affordable place to get it based on my research and that's where I buy it from.
This type of olive oil (i.e. high polyphenol EVOO) not only aids in reducing inflammation but also provides essential fatty acids that support skin hydration and even protects your telomeres. It isn't often heard about for obvious reasons but cancer patients who consume high polyphenole EVOO along with or after chemotherapy report amazing benefits.
I take half a shot glass of very high polyphenole olive oil that is organic, every day. If your olive oil isn't organic, think twice. Non- organic olive oil means your olive trees were sprayed and you really shouldn't eat pesticides.
This type of very high polyphenole olive oils are expensive, that's why I drink it consciously rather than putting it on my salad. That'd be a very expensive dressing. However, high polyphenole olive oil can reduce your medical bills. It did reduce mine.
#2 Omega-3 Fish Oil
Omega-3 fish oil has lost its hype but I'm here to remind you about it. It's great for its anti-inflammatory properties, making it a cornerstone in managing eczema. Rich in EPA and DHA, two types of omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil helps to reduce inflammation throughout the body, including the skin.
Omega-3s are essential for maintaining skin health, supporting the skin's barrier function, and reducing redness and itching associated with eczema. Additionally, these fatty acids play a crucial role in promoting a healthy gut microbiome, which is vital for overall digestive health. Read my blog post about gut microbiome here.
Daily dosage depends on your needs and the product strength. Fish oil comes in liquid form and also in capsules. I prefer the capsules. Look for high-quality, purified fish oil supplements to avoid contaminants. Also, don't punish yourself if you forget to take it a day or two. The point is that you are determined to control your eczema and elevate your gut health. Some is better than none.
#3 Flaxseed Oil
I find that flaxseed oil is another excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). This plant-based oil is an ideal alternative for those who prefer vegetarian or vegan options but it works for everyone else as well.
Like fish oil, flaxseed oil helps to reduce systemic inflammation, which can alleviate eczema symptoms. It also supports digestive health by promoting a balanced gut microbiome and easing constipation.
A daily dosage of 1 tablespoons is typically recommended but I play around with my intake depending on my needs on that day. Flaxseed oil can be added to smoothies, yogurt, or used in salad dressings which is what I do too. It can also be purchased in bulk. Organic, folks, just organic.
#4 Evening Primrose Oil
Evening primrose oil has a high content of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid that has been shown to reduce eczema symptoms and promote skin health.
GLA helps to strengthen the skin's barrier function and reduce inflammation, making it a valuable addition to your eczema management plan. It also supports gut health by reducing inflammation and promoting a balanced digestive system.
A dosage of 500-1,000 mg of evening primrose oil per day is what I opt for. It can be taken in capsule form or incorporated into your diet through supplements.
Just to make it clear, I seldomly take all of these oils together on the same day. I take two or three oils in one day to prevent a very oily day. I feel nausea if I take them all or overdose on one, and that's my body telling me what to do.
I've been using these oils since many years, mostly following a Mediterranean diet along with the Blueprint stack.
As a result, I experienced significant relief from my eczema and improved my gut health. I used to have IBS which then turned to SIBO, my guts were very loud for many years to the point that it was embarrassing in the movie theater. They are quiet and happy since I introduced these oils to my diet.
From the anti-inflammatory benefits of Omega-3 fish oil to the antioxidant-rich properties of high polyphenol olive oil, each oil offers unique advantages that contribute to a holistic approach to human body.
As you explore these oils, please remember to choose high-quality organic products as always. Who knows you may as well get side benefits like amazingly strong nails and shiny hair like you never had before.
Love yourself friends!
