Noisy Intestines? No problem...
I have never met anyone whose intestinal activity is as noisy and hyper as mine was. Some say this is called borborygmi, and that these are common sounds produced during the functions of the digestive system.
Primarily, these noises arise due to the movement of food, liquid, and gas as they move through the intestines. When the stomach and intestines contract to mix and propel contents, the associated sounds can become noticeable.
However, I don't think that was the case for me. My intestines used to be so incredibly noisy that I'd get embarrassed at the cinema or at an event where you sit quietly in an audience listening to a speaker. Like seriously, it was not normal. Other than a more often than not bloating problem, my noisy intestines did not cause me any other trouble. But gosh, they were annoying.
My problem was resolved when I started drinking high plyphenole EVOO along with other Blueprint supplements. My current nutrition regimen helps keep my gut health in check, which is where all other problems start from.
Sources say that while noisy intestines are often harmless, their implications can vary depending on the context in which they occur. Occasional sounds are normal and typically do not warrant concern. However, persistent or particularly loud noises like mine, especially when accompanied by other symptoms like pain, bloating, or changes in bowel habits, may indicate underlying digestive issues.
Conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastrointestinal infections, or small intestine bacteria overgrowth (SIBO) could contribute to excessive intestinal noise.
The Role of Olive Oil in Digestive Health
I said goodbye to my decades of ultra, extra loud intestinal noise a couple of weeks after I started introducing high polyphenole EVOO into my daily routine. This is more than three years ago now and I haven't heard my intestines screaming ever since. The funny thing is that this has come as a byproduct of my olive oil drinking habit, and it wasn't the reason why I started drinking olive oil in the first place. I do it for my overall health and wellness.
Organic, cold pressed olive oil varieties that are particularly high in polyphenol, are increasingly recognized for their benefits in enhancing digestive and overall health. Polyphenols are natural compounds found in olives, turmeric and some other foods, and exhibit strong antioxidant properties. This is significant because antioxidants help combat oxidative stress and inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract. Little did I know that by introducing a daily dose of high polyphenol olive oil to my diet, I was to experience a reduction in gut-related inflammation, ultimately quieting those digestive disturbances.
Studies show that the regular consumption of olive oil can lead to improved digestion and gut health. For instance, a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry illustrated that polyphenol-rich olive oil facilitates a better balance of gut microbiota, positively influencing overall digestive function. There are other studies that emphasize its role in protecting the intestinal lining from damage, and thus a more stable digestive process and reduced noise.
The recommended daily intake of olive oil for health benefits generally ranges from one to two tablespoons. I take a shot glass of it every single day. The higher your olive oil is in polyphenols, the more bitter and spicy it'll taste. You can also use it in salads or drizzle over cooked vegetables. I take it as is because it feels like I'm taking care of myself by taking my supplements (in this case, olive oil).
Omega-3 Fish Oil Is Also Fantastic for Gut Health
Omega-3 fish oil is rich in essential fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3s therefore play a pivotal role in reducing inflammation within the intestines. When combined with high polyphenole olive oil, this duo creates wonders.
You may have chronic inflammation and not be aware of it. This imbalance can contribute to various gastrointestinal issues, leading to discomfort and noisy intestinal sounds. By incorporating omega-3 fish oil into my regimen, again, not for this reason, I helped promote overall gut well-being and a healthy gut microbiome.
I talked about this in many other blog posts but a balanced microbiome is crucial for digestion, nutrient absorption, and immunity. Research suggests that omega-3s can positively influence the diversity and composition of gut bacteria. Consequently, this can lead to a reduction in excessive intestinal noises, making omega-3 fish oil a compelling natural remedy for individuals seeking harmony within their digestive systems.
In addition to your choice of supplements that your body needs, incorporating omega-3-rich foods into your diet can be an effective method to enhance your intake naturally. Fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines are excellent sources. Walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds also provide plant-based omega-3 alternatives. By prioritizing these foods, you can further support digestive health while potentially reducing the occurrence of noisy intestines.
Natural Organic Vinegar in Your Diet
By natural organic vinegar, I mean any home made type, no additives vinegar. I buy walnut, apple, harnup and rose vinegar to rotate the flavors because again, I drink my vinegar, from the same shot glass to wash down the olive oil:))
If you can't find no-additive, all natural vinegar, apple cider vinegar will do. Vinegar intake helps me with digestive health and alleviates symptoms associated with noisy intestines. One of the primary mechanisms through which vinegar aids digestion is by helping to balance stomach acids. Many of us experience digestive discomfort due to insufficient stomach acidity, which can lead to bloating, gas, and intestinal noises. The acetic acid found in organic vinegar stimulates the production of gastric juices, thereby enhancing the overall digestive process.
Vinegar also supports the health of our gut flora. A balanced gut microbiome is critical for efficient digestion and nutrient absorption. The prebiotic properties of natural organic vinegar can foster the growth of beneficial bacteria, contributing to improved intestinal health. I also use vinegar as a mouth and nose wash to keep the flue away during colder months.
If you aren't able to have a shot glass of straight vinegar like me, you can also mix one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water. This drink can be consumed before meals to prepare the digestive system. Another practical tip is to use vinegar as a salad dressing: combining olive oil, herbs, and a splash of organic vinegar can create a delicious seasoning that enhances meals while promoting digestive health.
Individuals with certain conditions, such as acid reflux or ulcers, may need to limit their vinegar intake, as its acidity could exacerbate these issues. Always consult with a healthcare professional prior to making changes to your diet or relying on the natural remedies that work for me.
Stay fine-tuned with quiet and happy intestines friends! Hasta la proxima...
